Club Officer Training in Ingolstadt – Review by Taras Iks

Englisch: It was first time that I was invited to participate in Club Officers Training and not as usual participant but as a trainer. Last year I spent by Toastmasters as VPPR of my own club in Bamberg. There we use MeetUp, Email and Facebook posts to make our club public and to write invitation letters for our upcoming meetings. That was the reason why I was asked to share my experience as VPPR trainer. A big advantage also was that a year ago I moved to Ingolstadt and it was about 15 minutes for me to go by car to the meeting place. Other members had to travel for several hours. A lot people came from Nuremberg and Munich. At first we met at Nordbahnhof in Ingolstadt with some members that I already knew from my own club. We had a short walk to the COT location in Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt with a possibility to chat with each other. It was first time that I met people in presence. The reason for this was that I joined the club during the pandemic so that I saw people only over Zoom calls.

After we found the right lecture hall, we started to prepare our equipment like cameras and microphones, but we also organized some water. cakes and bananas.

Deepak conduced the introduction section. Then we were called to find our groups for different club roles. I as VPPR trainer got three participants in my group. We had a large lecture hall, but we were about seven groups so that it was pretty difficult to find a quite place to be able to chat with each other. As an unexperienced trainer I was pretty nervous. And to cope with it I prepared a PowerPoint presentation in advance with an introduction about VPPR role and then some tasks for participants. After my short speech we immediately started the discussion in a comfortable and welcomed atmosphere. Very experienced participants – was my first thought – because my nervousness was immediately gone. We were so deep in our discussion exchanging different experience we brought from our clubs that on slide 3 of my presentation Deepak announced that we have only 5 minutes left and we have to create a summary which we can present it in front of other groups. After couple of minutes, we went to the stage and presented our bullet points in front of other groups. It was the first time for me speaking in front of people in person and not online. Because of the very welcoming atmosphere it went very well. Thereafter we took a seat in audience to proceed with further training program.
